"So she took her love
For to gaze awhile
Upon the fields of barley
In his arms she fell as her hair came down
Among the fields of gold."

coming and going
Just got back from Queensland yesterday, and I'd say it was more of an immersion into the Australian culture than a sightseeing/tourist kind of thing. It was a very short trip, and I would have loved to stay longer, spend more time at the Gold Coast. It seemed like a pretty interesting place. I'm gonna be back, that's for sure.
We stayed at Ross' (T.Bruce's brother) place, so this time it was a pure Australian family. It was a lot of fun getting to know them and how they are, and surprisingly, they're not much different from us. Although, they really do have alcohol with almost every meal. We barely had lunch at home, but wine was always an option to go with the midday meal. They have what they call nibbles before dinner, which is usually biscuits, cheese, a dip or two, along with your choice of either beer, sherry, red or white wine. During dinner, it's either red or white wine, and after dinner there's dessert wine! I've never drank this much alcohol in my entire life! ;p
Anne, Ross' wife, had lots of beautiful blown up photos around the house, and later on I found out she was a photographer. Her photos were just stunning. They just got back from Europe, and the photos she took of the places they've been to were amazing. We got to chat a bit and she showed me some books which were helpful, in case "you want to get into it," she said. She even gave me a few tips on how to use Elements, which I had but didn't know that it was for digital photography. You always learn something new everyday.
I got to meet the daughter of Ross and Anne too, Fiona, and her partner Jason. I got along pretty well with them, I think they were the only young people I've ever interacted with long enough in this entire trip! It's in their generation that I realized much of the difference between their culture and ours. They're only in their late 20s but they've already bought a house together (they're not married). I was able to see their place, and I was very impressed. It was a rather quaint white house, made of wood, elevated with a staircase to get in, sort of like a mini beach house. Inside, the kitchen was newly renovated, all stainless, with a pizza oven! Cool beans! They must get paid an awful lot! Anyhow, talking to them, learning about their lifestyle was like something out of a chick lit book, which amused me somehow. It's not all fiction after all hahaha. Thank God I was able to mingle with normal people for a change! ;p
I'm flying back on Thursday, and I'm totally psyched to go home. The routine that I've been stuck in for quite some time could have heightened this excitement, and my pet peeves which have been getting the best of me are reason enough to show that I've been here too long. Knowing that I'll have to do a lot of organizing and job hunting when I get back definitely gives me something to look forward to. It's true when they say that you do get tired doing nothing. I miss the action.

out of it
I feel yucky. I'm down with a bad cold and terrible body pain. And we're leaving for Brisbane tomorrow. Argh. Mind over matter.
Until now I'm still raving over the Now and Then DVD that found its way to me. :) it was on top of a bargain rack full of PS2 games, staring right at me. If it could talk it would have been saying, "What are you waiting for?!?" The fact that it was a bargain was only a bonus, heck, I would have bought it with the regular price. As they'd say here, good fun! :)
I don't know if time flew too fast but I'm flying back in less than two weeks. There were slow days, but it didn't get me thinking as much as spur of the moment reflective moods did. A few nights ago I took Mom's advice to heart and actually pondered on my 5 and 10 year goals. Along with all the new discoveries I've come to know about myself during my stay here, all the more am I convinced that the corporate world just isn't my thing. It's too constricted, requires more routine than I can handle. A few weeks here, and I've proven that my patience always ends up taking the backseat. Routine can be good for a time, but life needs a dash of spontaneity every now and then. Now to achieve my goals let's see how that would fit in the picture.
